THE BUYING GUIDE

Wide coverage. Detail when you need it.

A PTZ camera lets an operator change the viewing direction and zoom into an area of interest. Presets and tours can help return to planned views, while tracking features depend on the specific model and configuration. A moving camera only records where it is looking at that moment, so consider fixed overview cameras when continuous coverage of several areas is important.

Build an operator workflow.

Decide who will control the camera, which views must be saved and which events need a closer look. Plan a dependable overview as well as a moving view.

Four checks before you choose.

Start with the details that affect your installation.

01 / COVERAGE

Pan, tilt & placement

Check movement limits, mounting height and line of sight. Consider blind spots and what happens while the camera looks in another direction.

02 / DETAIL

Optical zoom & focus

Choose the optical range for the target distance, then check image detail and low-light performance. Digital zoom is not a substitute for optical reach.

03 / OPERATIONS

Presets & tracking

Confirm presets, tours and any automatic tracking on the exact device. Check event triggers and whether the recorder or platform supports the workflow.

04 / INSTALLATION

Power & weather

Confirm the specified power source, maximum load, mount and environmental rating. Do not assume a standard PoE port can power every PTZ.

BEFORE YOU ORDER

A few useful answers.

Talk through your requirements with us ↗

Can a PTZ watch every direction at once?

A single moving view cannot provide continuous coverage of every direction. Combine it with suitable overview cameras where simultaneous coverage matters.

Does every PTZ include auto tracking?

No. Tracking functions, target types and configuration differ by model and firmware.

Can I power it from my existing PoE switch?

Check the exact camera power specification and the switch per-port and total power limits, including operating accessories.

Will third-party software control movement?

Verify the supported control protocol and individual functions. A video connection alone does not confirm presets, tours or tracking control.
